Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct

One of the many challenging aspects of coaching is to play the part of role model to our players. Behavior of our players on the court and in public, for the most part, is extremely favorable. In the heat of the game, it isn’t hard to get emotional. Nevertheless, we have an obligation to our players to reinforce teamwork and good sportsmanship. Sometimes behavior of individuals off the court raises eyebrows. Like coaches, parents also must be role models for our children and need to set a positive example as a fan of the game.

These guidelines will help provide an enjoyable experience for our players and other spectators. All parents will abide by a Code of Conduct which includes the provisions that follow. Any violation of these rules may result in the revocation of participation privileges in the Royalty Basketball Program for the parent(s)/guardian(s), player or both.

  • Set an example of sportsmanship for our children to follow
  • Retain perspective
  • Having your athlete on time, fully dressed and ready for practice at the designated time. Part of your playing time will be based on your attendance and preparation at practices. Excessive absences will result in dismissal from the program.
  • Always accept decision of game officials and judges as being fair and called to the best of the officials’ ability
  • Never protest an official’s call in a demonstrative manner which might incite violent or aggressive fan involvement
  • Never criticize, belittle, antagonize, berate or otherwise incite an opposing team, its players, coaches, cheerleaders or fans by word of mouth or gesture
  • Be realistic about your child’s strengths and weaknesses. Help them outside of practice and games to develop their skills
  • Remember that coaches, managers, and league officials are unpaid volunteers
  • Do not participate in slanderous or hurtful gossip
  • Do not fight. Do not use foul or abusive language or gestures to any other parent, coach or player. Such behavior can result in you being ejected from future games and potential ejection of your child from the program
  • Never use abusive or profane language at any time
  • Let the coaches do their job. Never coach from the stands. A violation can result in a student-athlete not participating in the current and/or future games.
  • Never smoke and/or use smokeless tobacco at any Royalty Basketball Programs function
  • Always abstain from the possession and drinking of alcoholic beverages and the possession of any illegal substance at any Royalty Basketball function.
